Handmade Match — Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 31, 2026

About this Policy
Handmade Match is a curated, in-person matchmaking service operated by Desert Rabbit Investments, LLC (doing business as Handmade Match) based in Tempe, Arizona. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices you have. It applies to anyone who fills out our profile questionnaire, attends an event, or otherwise interacts with our service.
If anything here is unclear, write to us at hello@handmadematch.com. We'd rather answer a question than leave you wondering.
Who we are
Handmade Match is a small, host-led matchmaking experience. Every profile is reviewed by a real person (the host), and every match is a hand-picked judgment call. We are not a dating app. We do not use algorithms to decide who you meet.
For the purposes of this policy, "we," "our," and "us" refer to Handmade Match. "You" refers to anyone who submits a profile or attends an event.
Information we collect
Information you give us
When you fill out our profile questionnaire, you provide us with detailed personal information you choose to share, which may include:
- Identity and contact information: your name, date of birth, email address, phone number, city/state/ZIP code
- Physical characteristics: height, build, photos of yourself
- Demographic information: gender, transgender status, relationship status, whether you have children or other dependents, employment status
- Lifestyle and preferences: work, availability, hobbies, living situation, money habits, travel and planning preferences, social media use, alcohol and cannabis use
- Values and worldview: political leaning and how central politics is to your life; faith tradition and how important shared beliefs are to you
- Physical and emotional preferences: what you find attractive, what you cannot be with, love languages, cuddling preference
- Personal narrative: what you're proud of, how you'd want to be introduced, first impression concerns, and anything else you choose to share
Some of this information is what U.S. privacy laws call "sensitive" — including racial or ethnic background implied by photos, religious beliefs, political views, sexual orientation implied by preferences, and health information implied by build or dependents. By submitting your profile, you consent to us collecting and using this sensitive information for the purpose of matching you with other applicants.
Information collected automatically
Our website may collect basic technical information when you visit — such as the type of device you're using, general location (city-level), and pages you view. This helps us understand how the site is being used and improve it over time.
Information from third parties
We do not currently buy personal information from data brokers, advertising networks, or other third-party sources. If this ever changes, we will update this policy.
How we use your information
We use the information you give us for the following purposes:
1. To match you with a potential partner. The host reads every profile and hand-selects who to invite to each event, and who to pair with whom. Your personal information is central to this decision.
2. To communicate with you. We may email or call you about your application status, upcoming events, invitations, or important updates to the service.
3. To manage the event. We use your name, contact information, and dietary or accessibility needs (if provided) to run the event smoothly.
4. To exchange contact information with a match — only with your consent. If you and the person you meet both say yes on your exit questionnaire, we share each of your contact details with the other. If only one of you says yes, or neither does, no contact information is shared, and neither of you is told the other's answer.
5. To process your $99 event fee. We use a third-party payment processor (e.g., Stripe or Square) to charge the fee. We do not store your full credit card number ourselves.
6. To improve the service. We may review aggregate information about applicants and events to make Handmade Match better over time.
7. To meet our legal obligations. For example, keeping records for tax purposes or responding to a lawful subpoena.
We do not use your information to train artificial intelligence models, to serve advertising, or for any purpose you would not reasonably expect from a matchmaking service.
When we share your information
Handmade Match is small and intentionally low-tech. We share your information in only a few specific situations:
With another applicant, after mutual consent
If you and the person you met at an event both say you'd like to be introduced again, we share each of your contact details with the other. This is the entire point of the service. If either of you says no, nothing is shared, and neither of you is told how the other answered.
With the service providers we use to run the business
We use a small number of trusted third-party tools:
- Typeform — hosts the profile questionnaire and stores responses
- Notion — stores the host's private database of applicants and matches
- Squarespace — hosts the public website
- Google Drive — stores backup copies of uploaded photos
- Stripe — processes the $99 event payment
These providers only access your information to the extent necessary to provide their service to us. They are contractually obligated to protect your information under their own privacy policies.
For legal reasons
We may disclose your information if we are legally required to — for example, in response to a valid subpoena, court order, or lawful government request. If we ever receive such a request, we will do our best to notify you unless we're prohibited from doing so.
We do not sell your personal information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to advertisers, marketers, or data brokers. Not now, not ever. If this changes, we will notify you before any change takes effect and give you a chance to opt out.
How long we keep your information
- Active applicants: We keep your information for as long as you're an active applicant in our matching pool.
- After you withdraw: If you tell us you no longer want to be considered for matches, we remove your profile from our active pool within 30 days. We may keep a limited record (name and email) to prevent duplicate applications and honor your request.
- After events: We keep records of your event attendance and the outcome (matched or not) as long as reasonably needed for the service, and to help make future matches for you.
- Photos: We keep photos as long as your profile is active. When you withdraw, we delete them within 30 days unless you request faster deletion.
- Payment records: We keep transaction records as required by law (typically 7 years for tax and financial purposes).
Your choices
You have the following choices about your information:
- Review or update your profile: Email us at hello@handmadematch.com and we'll help you review or update anything.
- Withdraw from the matching pool: You can ask to be removed from consideration at any time by emailing us. We'll confirm and remove you within 30 days.
- Delete your data: You can ask us to delete your personal information. We will delete what we can, keeping only what we're legally required to retain (e.g., payment records).
- Access what we have: You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Opt out of communication: If you don't want us to contact you about future events, tell us and we'll stop.
To exercise any of these choices, email hello@handmadematch.com.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
- Your profile data is stored in Notion, which uses standard encryption at rest and in transit.
- Access to your profile is limited to the host.
- Photos are stored in Google Drive with restricted access.
- Payment processing is handled by Stripe, which meets PCI-DSS security standards.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you promptly and follow all applicable legal requirements.
Children
Handmade Match is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover that we've collected information from a minor, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has submitted information, please contact us immediately.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, when we change how we operate or when the law changes. When we make material changes, we will notify you (typically by email) and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
