Welcome
Handmade Match is a curated, in-person matchmaking service based in Tempe, Arizona. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our website, your submission of a profile, and your attendance at any Handmade Match event. Please read them carefully.
By submitting a profile or attending an event, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't submit a profile.
Who can use Handmade Match
To use Handmade Match, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be legally able to enter into a binding agreement
- Currently reside in Arizona (we operate in Arizona only at this time)
- Provide accurate, truthful information in your profile
We reserve the right to decline any application, and to remove any applicant from consideration, at our sole discretion.
What Handmade Match is — and isn't
Handmade Match is a curated matchmaking service. The host reviews every profile and hand-selects who to invite to events, and who to pair together. We use tools to help organize applicants, but a person — not an algorithm — makes every matching decision.
We do not guarantee any of the following:
- That you will be invited to an event
- That your match will result in a romantic relationship, friendship, or ongoing connection of any kind
- That the person you meet will be compatible with you in every way you hoped
- That you will find a long-term partner through this service
Matchmaking is a human effort with human judgment. We do our best. We make no promises about the outcome.
How the service works
Applying is free
You can submit a profile at no cost. The host reviews every profile personally.
Being invited is by selection only
Not every applicant is invited to an event. The host selects applicants based on fit with upcoming events and available matches. If you are not selected, this reflects the specific matching context — not your worth as a person.
Attending an event costs $99
If you are invited and you accept, you will be charged $99 per event through our payment processor (Stripe). Payment is due at the time of confirmation.
What happens at an event
You will arrive at a private location we specify in advance. You will be paired with one other guest — hand-chosen for you — for approximately two hours of one-on-one conversation. The conversation is guided by a structured question format we provide.
During the event, phones may be collected at the door. You will not exchange contact information at the event itself.
After the event
Each guest completes a private exit questionnaire. If both you and the person you met say you'd like to see each other again, we share your contact details. If only one of you says yes, or neither, no contact is shared, and you are not told the other's answer.
You may be invited to future events. Each event is $99 whether you are matched again or not.
Payments and refunds
Payment
The $99 event fee is due when you confirm your invitation. All fees are in U.S. dollars.
Refund policy
- If we cancel an event: You will receive a full refund.
- If you cancel more than 7 days before the event: You will receive a full refund.
- If you cancel between 7 days and 48 hours before the event: You will receive a 50% refund.
- If you cancel within 48 hours of the event, or do not attend: No refund will be issued. We hold your seat and pair you with someone — that spot cannot be filled at the last minute.
- If you attend and are dissatisfied with your experience: We do not offer refunds based on outcome. Matchmaking involves real people and real chemistry, which we cannot promise or refund.
If you have a specific concern about an event that has already occurred, please contact us at hello@handmadematch.com and we will do our best to make it right within reason.
Your responsibilities as an applicant
By submitting a profile, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information. Do not misrepresent your age, identity, relationship status, or other material facts. We may remove you from consideration if we discover misrepresentation.
- Submit only your own photos. Do not submit photos of anyone else, and do not submit photos taken in a professional context (headshots you don't own the rights to, for example).
- Treat other guests with respect. Rudeness, harassment, or aggressive behavior at events will result in immediate removal and a permanent ban from future events, with no refund.
- Respect the consent-forward exchange. Do not attempt to obtain another guest's contact information outside of the exit questionnaire process. Do not add anyone on social media before contact information has been officially exchanged.
- Respect confidentiality. The other guests you meet at an event are attending in the same spirit of privacy you are. Do not share names, details, or photographs of other guests publicly (including on social media) without their explicit consent.
Violation of these responsibilities may result in removal from the service without refund.
Prohibited conduct
You may not use Handmade Match to:
- Engage in commercial solicitation, marketing, or recruitment
- Sell products or services to other guests
- Seek employment, investment opportunities, or business partnerships
- Distribute unsolicited communications to other guests after the event
- Engage in harassment, stalking, or threatening behavior toward any guest or the host
- Violate any applicable law
Handmade Match is for people seeking meaningful romantic connection. It is not a networking event or a sales channel. Misuse of the service will result in removal.
Photos and content
When you submit a photo to Handmade Match, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to use that photo solely for the purpose of matching you with other applicants and running the service. Specifically:
- We may show your photos to the host as part of profile review.
- We may show your photos to a potential match's file the host is considering pairing with you, before an event.
- We will not use your photos in advertising, social media, promotional material, or any other public-facing context without your separate, explicit written consent.
- We will delete your photos when you withdraw from the service (see our Privacy Policy).
You retain full ownership of your photos.
Withdrawal and account termination
You can withdraw at any time
You may withdraw from Handmade Match at any time by emailing us at hello@handmadematch.com. We will remove you from the active matching pool within 30 days. Please see our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data.
We may remove you at our discretion
We reserve the right to decline any applicant, or to remove any applicant from the service, at any time and for any reason — including but not limited to violation of these Terms, misrepresentation, or misconduct at an event. If we remove you, we will not issue a refund for events you have not yet attended, except as required by law.
Disclaimer of warranties
Handmade Match is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We make no warranties about the character, background, safety, or intentions of other guests.
- We do not conduct background checks on applicants (see below).
- We make no guarantees about the availability, reliability, or outcome of the service.
You are responsible for exercising your own judgment in deciding to meet another guest. We recommend meeting in the designated public setting we provide, being cautious about sharing personal information, and trusting your instincts about any person you meet.
Background checks and applicant verification
We do not conduct criminal background checks on applicants. We do not verify applicants' identity, employment, marital status, criminal history, or any other information they provide. We rely on the honesty of applicants.
The host reviews profiles for matching purposes — to identify potentially compatible pairings. This review is not a safety screening. It does not verify the truthfulness or trustworthiness of any applicant.
Because we do not disclose the identity of your match before an event, you will not be able to research them in advance. Your safety at the event is supported by three things:
The setting. Events take place in a calm, private venue we select — not a private home, not a bar. The host is present.
Your own judgment. If at any point you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, alert the host and leave.
Consent-forward contact exchange. Contact information is only shared after both parties agree in the exit questionnaire. Nothing is exchanged during the event itself.
After an event, if you and the person you met both consent to exchange contact information, you are welcome to conduct your own research at that point. We recommend meeting in a public place for any follow-up date until you know each other better.
We may, at our discretion, decline applicants whose public information gives us serious concern.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Arizona law:
- Handmade Match is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the service, your interactions with another guest, or the outcome of any match.
- Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
- We are not liable for the conduct of other guests before, during, or after an event.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability. If any part of this section is not enforceable in your case, the rest still applies to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
If you have a dispute with Handmade Match, please contact us at hello@handmadematch.com first — most concerns can be resolved through direct conversation. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona, and you agree to submit to the jurisdiction of those courts.
Consumer protection
Handmade Match is committed to honest advertising and clear pricing. We comply with the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act (A.R.S. § 44-1521 et seq.) and other applicable consumer protection laws. If you believe we have misrepresented our service, please contact us so we can address your concern directly.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you (typically by email) and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the service after changes take effect means you accept the new Terms.
